The Story of Box of Comfort & Hope

Are you ever at a loss as to what to do when you personally know someone who has experienced grief and loss or is fighting cancer? Our society as a whole is so grief illiterate; and therefore, many of us struggle in knowing what to do. We don’t feel adequately prepared when the unimaginable happens. Many people send flowers—it’s all they know to do. As someone who has been on the receiving end, flowers are wonderful and sweet expressions; but when you literally receive 50 to 100 of them, you can feel overwhelmed in an already overwhelming situation. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was another alternative that sent the message of love and care that you desire to communicate?

Friend, that is why I created the Box of Comfort and Hope! It is box designed to do exactly what the name implies—to provide comfort and hope in the midst of life’s storms. Each box contains several items to remind your loved one that it’s okay to take time out to care for themselves. There is a book, so that when they are ready, they can have their experience validated and their feelings normalized. There is a mug with a Scripture verse that reminds them that God is with them and they are never alone even when it may feel that way. Some have said that they are also reminded of the person who sent them the box every time they use the mug and it reminds them of how much they are loved.

Or maybe you are the one who is experiencing grief or fighting the battle of cancer, and you would like to purchase a box for yourself. We’ve designed this so that it is also the perfect gift to give yourself. Afterall, you are worth so much more than the price of the box! And let’s be honest, when is the last time you did something for yourself? In grief, there are so many things to do and to learn in addition to your grief. Wouldn’t it be nice to take a moment for self-care and to have some reminders that you are not alone? Self-care is not selfish, it is necessary!
